I am not an idiot...

My kids have been putting their shoes on all by themselves for years now.  As a busy mom the only thing I really give a hoot about is the fact that they do it themselves.  I am not overly concerned with style, or function, socks or no socks.  I really don’t even care if the shoes are on the correct feet.  That being said,  I still know what’s going on.  I know if their shoes are on the “wrong” feet.  I know if their pants or on backwards or not.  But I don’t feel the need to needle them about it.  I don’t care that Finn wears camo pants with a yellow and blue striped shirt. Or that Jack picked out a pajama top to wear with his backwards blue jeans. To the outside world my kids must look like ragamuffins, but to me they look like the adorable independent little souls that they are.

Now, I do have one pet peeve regarding my children’s dress.  While it has very little to do with what they have chosen, it has everything to do with the dumb-asses out there that feel the need to point out to me that my children do indeed have their shoes on the wrong feet.  Do you really think I’m an idiot and I let them slip by me? I can assure you, I am not.  Nor will I assume you are a brilliant individual because you felt the need to point this out to me.

If you continue to feel the overwhelming desire to point out my children’s lack of skills in dressing themselves, I will point out to you how impressed I am that you know your left foot from your right.  I will smile at you and try my best to be polite, unlike yourself.
